ABOUT
Our Mission
“To create a site dedicated to helping you improve your game on court using skills and drills that are part of our regular daily diet of squash and racketball.”
After 40 years of experience on court and over 20 years as a qualified teacher, I wanted to combine my skills to create a Squash and Squash57 (Racketball) video website catering for different levels.
Play-squash.com is a passion project and resource that combines my techniques and drills that have been adapted and fine-tuned over time to help craft players’ games.
Whether you’re a beginner, club or county player - or even a coach - there’s a wide selection of videos to help improve your game on court.
Our Founder
My name is John Cordeaux (JC). I started playing squash at the age of 10 when my dad took me for a hit on a concrete court with a wooden racket! I soon discovered, much to my relief, that courts normally have wooden floors! I had the incredible good luck to be coached at the start of my playing career by one of the most outstanding British squash coaches – Malcolm Willstrop. Malcolm engendered in me a love for the game and gave me the skills to enhance my game. Since then, over my career I have gone on to represent England in Squash at 3 international age groups, won the British Doubles Men’s Championship, and 4 individual Masters National Racketball Championships.
Whilst at school, I was fortunate to practice with some exceptional players, Gawain Briars (later World No. 4), Christy Willstrop (World U19 Finalist & England International), Richard Lelievre (England U19 Champion), Richard Millman (Multiple USA Masters National titles & former head coach of the US National Team) together with Ian Robinson (England International) and Dean Williams (Australian International), when visiting Malcolm before their major tournaments.
I now play with some great guys, Ian Cox (Squash Masters International o35s & Squash57 o40s National Champion), Dave Goulby (Squash57 o35s National Champion 2018 & Squash Masters International o45s) and Rob Hambrook (Squash57 No.2 ranked player o50s 2019 & o50s Doubles National Champion).
Squash and Squash57 (Racketball) are addictive. I’ve always felt an affinity with the court and the game, and that still remains true even after 10,000+ hours on court! Fun and enjoyment (as well as winning!) is what the game should always be about. I hope this comes across in the videos and that you find them instructive, insightful and enjoyable in improving your game.
